The epic Middle Earth “The Lord of The Rings” and “The Hobbit” trilogies are getting UK 4K releases in November
Talk about this release on Slack
After months of rumours, it’s now confirmed that the two Middle Earth trilogies are finally coming to 4K on November 30th.
For each trilogy you’ll be able to choose from standard and steelbook releases, and the sets will include both the Theatrical and Extended Cuts of all six films (with the Lord of The Rings Extended Cuts across 2 discs each), but other than that these will be bare bones 4K-only releases (no Blu-rays included). All six films are newly remastered in 4K, with Dolby Atmos audio.
Warners are planning a much more extravagant 4K Middle-earth Ultimate Collectors’ Edition featuring both versions of all six films, along with new bonus content, the existing Blu-ray discs of The Hobbit Trilogy, and newly remastered Blu-ray discs of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, for release in summer 2021, so if extras are your thing, that’s worth knowing.
Pre-orders are live now, and we’ll add more links as we get them.

From director Peter Jackson, rediscover the stunning locations and epic adventures in the greatest film saga of all time. The critically acclaimed series of six films encompasses The Hobbit™ and The Lord of the Rings™ trilogies and tells the mythic tales of an ancient world called Middle-earth™: A world of Elves, Dwarves, Wizards, Humans and Hobbits in a constant struggle against the evil forces of the Dark Lord Sauron and his army of Goblins and Orcs – a world of quests, Dragons, treasures and a legendary final battle for the future of Middle-earth™ itself.
Peter Jackson’s epic adventure through J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth™ begins with The Hobbit™ trilogy as Bilbo Baggins is swept into an unexpected journey. Bilbo, the Wizard Gandalf and 13 Dwarves – led by Thorin Oakenshield – journey to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor. Along the way, Bilbo must fight for his life, and Dwarves, Elves and Men must unite or risk being destroyed. Meanwhile, a dark power rises again and finds its way back to Middle-earth™.
The adventure continues with THE LORD OF THE RINGS™ trilogy when, with the help of the Fellowship of the Ring, Bilbo Baggin’s nephew, Frodo, embarks on a perilous mission to destroy the One Ring™ and defeat the Dark Lord Sauron and his forces. Soon, the Fellowship is broken, and while the other members fight off the evil spreading through Middle-earth™, Frodo and his friend Samwise must continue their dangerous mission, with a guide they cannot trust, toward the fires of Mount Doom as the final battle for Middle-earth™ begins.
£140 each!? ?
Jack Huitson they’ve taken it down to 99 now.
Sean Dawn took them 10 minutes to correct the price – cancelled and reordered at £100. Thanks
Jason Worsell 100 pound now
Still a bit much. Undecided
I have pre ordered
Might leave it as it is close to them star wars steelbooks
They’ve got no release date
On zavvi it says 30th November
Just cancel the order ?
Up to you though, they are nice ?
Just checked the pics on zavvi, looks like it’s 4K only.
Not a huge fan of this design… might wait for the middle earth collection next year.
Can’t justify spending £200 on these right before Xmas
Simon James Or any other time of the year
This post is 35 mins old and the 4K Steelbook is sold out already ?
Never mind… it’s up
I’ll wait until next year’s release
What is the Zavvi red carpet discount code? I’m a red carpet subscriber but was never given a discount code ??
No new films in the cinema means we are probably getting a lot more 4K upgrades than we might have normally as some sort of over compensation
So who was doing the set with the ring?
Zavvi you pulled again dirty trick on us the Red Carpet members.
Missed again on preorders.
Where was the early access?
When shipped the items are going missing, no notification for Red Carpet members.
I think this company is on the slippery slope in my books now.
Red Carpet early access is for exclusive titles, and this one isn’t
If no Red Carpet, then a bit of notice would suffice.
Customer loyalty it’s a two-way street.
I will leave my hard-earned money with AMAZON Instead.
How come I am getting early access to some mediocre titles, but when it comes to good staff, no Red Carpet treatment?
Red Carpet early access is for exclusive titles, and this one isn’t
I’m a stick with my extended edition dvd box sets of lotr trilogy.
Which I haven’t watched in years 😛
Why go live at 1am, normal people are a sleep then because going to work
Well that’s nice. Midnight release means I’ve missed the steelbooks.
Not even advance warning for red carpet members, just a note when it went live…
Wait till summer 2021 there is a Ultimate edition arriving with NEW extras etc (not confirmed yet what’s to be included) that’s why they are rushing out these sets before Christmas ? I.e save ya money till next year ?
I’m sure if you look on eBay the Touts will have done their work! ?
Stupid Zavvi I was asleep no clue it was going live at midnight. In fairness it’s £200 for both and probably way to pricey atm. I’ll wait and see. Amazon it have them people if anyone needs it still.
If you don’t already know they are on HMV available to preorder now.
Now on the subject of the artwork.
Personally, I think the steelbooks look stunning, just wish they provided more shots showing the back cover in the inlay.
really ridiculous
on ebay already at prices around 200 euros
nice move zavvi
I’m not sure what this has to do with Zavvi? It’s also available from Amazon, WB Shop and HMV
Zavvis customer service really is abysmal, they should have notified Red Carpet customers to be aware of the midnight launch at the very least if they did not give exclusive window for purchasing the limited edition.
People aren’t going to be checking emails at midnight on the off-chance if they hadn’t heard through the grapevine on the enthusiast forums that it was likely to be made available at midnight.
Red Carpet is used for exclusive releases, and this isn’t. It’s available from other retailers
On their website in the terms it just says steelbooks rather than Zavvi exclusive steelbooks:
“EARLY ACCESS
Never miss out on our latest Steelbooks again! Get early access to products, including Steelbooks, exclusive prints and collectibles. We will email you before anyone else, so make sure you have signed up to emails notifications!”
What are the benefits of being a Red Carpet member?
1. Free Standard UK Delivery on all orders.
2. Early access to new releases.
3. Access to exclusive products, special offers and competitions.
They also dont keep their promise of weekly RC only deals “You’ll receive weekly discount and deals that are exclusive available for Red Carpet customers”
I do think us RC customers have a legitimate expectation of better service from Zavvi.
Thanks Nick.
My point precisely!
