Every movie fan and steelbook collector has their top 10 wish list. Those films that deserve a nice shiny new 4K steelbook. Sometimes we get our wish, one or two titles can be ticked off the list, and other titles take their place. But that list, change though it may, always remains. You have one, I have one. Those classics, the childhood favourites, the under-appreciated gems. Films that have comforted us through bad times, films that remind us of happy times. And every list personal and unique, with films that are special to each and every one of us.

One film that is pretty certain NOT to be on such a list it Captain Phillips.

Never the less, Sony Pictures has decided that what we all need right now is this new 4K Steelbook release of Captain Phillips, which is due for release on July 15th. And the worst thing? The artwork sucks. So yeah, thanks, Sony.

And hey, if this IS on your list, congrats. At least Sony has made one person’s day.

Pre-orders are live now. This is not a retailer exclusive, so we’ll add more links as we get them.

Captain Phillips is a multilayered examination of the 2009 hijacking of the U.S. container ship Maersk Alabama by a crew of Somali pirates. Based on a true story, the film focuses on the Alabama’s commanding officer, Captain Richard Phillips(two-time Academy Award® winner Tom Hanks, Best Actor, 1993, Philadelphia; Best Actor, 1994, Forrest Gump), and the Somali pirate captain, Muse (Barkhad Abdi, in an Academy Award®-nominated performance, Best Supporting Actor, 2013), who takes him hostage. The two men are set on an unstoppable collision course when Muse and his crew target Phillips’ unarmed ship; in the ensuing standoff, both men will find themselves at the mercy of forces beyond their control.
