Mini review – Zavvi exclusive “Ant-Man and The Wasp” and “Black Panther” collectible coins

The collectible coin market has been around for long, long time.

Primarily focused on very old, rare or otherwise valuable genuine currency, one area of the market that has always proved popular are commemorative special edition coins, covering things like important historical events, sporting events, and so on.

Appearing more recently have been movie and entertainment related coins, which have included popular titles such as Jurassic Park, Jaws, Sonic The Hedgehog and more.

Of course it’s only natural that entertainment giant Disney – with 100s of characters in its vaults – would want to get a slice of that pie, leading to an upcoming set of coins for their 2018 MCU releases – Black Panther, Ant-Man and The Wasp, and Avengers: Infinity War, which will be available exclusively from Zavvi.

Here we take a look at the first two coins, which Zavvi were kind enough to send over.

The packaging for the coins is nice and straightforward – a simple cardboard and plastic sleeve.

Inside that the coins are stored in a snug fitting hard plastic case, which will easily protect them from knocks and scrapes.

The coins themselves look VERY nice in person. One side shows the movie logo, with the other having action-packed artwork. The coins are embossed, and the antique gold colour finish really helps pick out all the details. They really do look much better than the mockups shown on their respective product listings.

While collectable coins might not be for everyone, they do make a change from the usual t-shirts, Pop! Vinyls, and so on, and if you’re into your Marvel merch they’re definitely worth a look.
